Getting Ready to Start Packing?
Here are some of our helpful tips & tricks to get you moving.
Furniture
Empty the contents of your wardrobes, drawers and cupboards before storing to protect the shelving and structure -this also makes them lighter and easier to move around. Be sure to remove any additional material or sheets from your furniture and clean off crumbs to prevent attracting unwanted attention. Any clothing and personal goods should be packed in strong and secure cartons.
Dishes & Glassware
Wrap fragile items such as glass dinnerware and wine glasses individually with plain packing paper. Try to avoid wrapping these goods in newspaper, as the ink can transfer and stain permanently. Fill any gaps in the cartons with scrunched paper or linen, to ensure fragile items don’t move around and break. Always label these cartons with fragile tape and avoid storing heavy items on the top of them.
HiFi & Television Gear
The original boxes with their styrofoam inserts are the best, but alternatively items can be individually wrapped in bubble wrap and packed into good quality cartons and boxes. All gaps and spaces should be packed and filled with newspaper to prevent movement within the cartons and then be securely sealed with packaging tape. Always keep your LCD TV’s and computer monitors upright to ensure the screen doesn’t get damaged.
Appliances
Empty, defrost and dry your fridge and freezer well before you move it to avoid mildew. When storing in your unit, try and keep the doors slightly ajar for freshness. Try and cover other appliances such as microwaves, dishwashers, washing machines and dryers in protective blankets to avoid marking or other damage.
Mirrors & Other Fragile Items
As these items are probably the most breakable and hard to pack, it is recommended to protect these items with bubble wrap and tape them up well. If you can, pack these items last so they’re in an easy to access and safe place. When transporting them on removal, it is best to store them upright (instead of flat) to avoid any heavy items being placed on top of them and potentially cracking or breaking the items.
Machinery & Mowers
Drain fuel and oil from mowers and machinery. Do not store used oil canisters or fuel containers. Place cardboard under anything that may drip oil over time. Clean of any dirt, moisture or plant matter before storing.
